Supporting World Mental Health Day

Inspiring Leadership 情色五月天 Blog Post

October is World Mental Health Month and Saturday 10th October is World Mental Health Day

The first World Mental Health Day was held in 1992 to raise awareness of mental health, and if ever there was a year to take a moment and check in on yourself and others, this is it! This year鈥檚 theme is Do You See What I See, in order to challenge perceptions about mental illness and encourage everyone to look at mental health in a more positive way and reduce the stigma around seeking help.

For most of us this has been the most challenging period we have ever experienced and has left many feeling frustrated, anxious, or low in mood. It has been seven months since a global pandemic was declared and here in Melbourne the restrictions feel endless with no definite end in sight. Humans are designed to connect, so lockdown has been extremely hard. It goes to the very base of our brains structural wiring, as being connected to others, both physically and mentally ensures our survival. So, no wonder it鈥檚 been so challenging for all of us.

With one in five people suffering a mental health issue at some point in their lives and many more this year, it鈥檚 a timely reminder to check in on your own wellbeing, as well as those around you. It鈥檚 been a tough year, so take the time to think about how you are really going and reach out for help if needed.

Take care everyone and remember, this too shall end!
